Reading the Bible On Your Own

OUR 365 PLAN IS ALL ABOUT ENCOURAGING DAILY PERSONAL BIBLE READING.

But as you approach the Bible, how you can approach this time reading God’s Word intentionally, and get something out of it every day? This is where we’re big fans of the habit of journaling as you read.

Trying using the R.E.A.P. method of journaling as a way to stay attentive to God’s Word and focus on what you’re learning.

Read

Read the passage carefully. Before you read, write down the Bible passage you’re reading at the top of the journal page, and ask that God would guide your reading and help you get to know Him better as you read His Word.

Engage

Reading God’s Word isn’t a passive exercise. In this step, write down at least 1-2 things that stand out about the passage. For example, this can be a verse or two that grabs your attention, a truth about who God is or what He’s doing, questions that come to mind as you read, a dominant theme or repeated idea in the passage…basically anything notable you observe and don’t want to miss.

Apply

Write out how you can apply what you’ve learned from this passage. Sometimes application isn’t something you do, but something you remember or reflect on.

Pray

Write out a short prayer to God to close your time in Scripture.
